I went to see the film, because I loved "The Fighter" and I wanted to see what's next for David O. Russell. He didn't disappoint me. Both of his films are about mid-lower class families that struggle with medical problems (addiction, mental illness). Of course O. Russell explores the funny side of depression and mental illness, the other side is just not filmic enough. I enjoyed the script with its honest, straight and unexpected dialogue that kept me interested in the characters. All of the characters had some problems, with the exception of the mother. She was the glue (like all mothers) that keep the family and the dynamics together. Jacki Weaver is an absolute delight to watch and experience her emotions. I don't remember the last time I saw Robert De Niro be good in anything. David O. Russell gets an excellent performance out of him and I'm glad to see that De Niro can act in his later years. Jennifer Lawrence is so good that I think she should get a nomination for her portrayal of Tiffany. The film is somewhat a cliche - we know how its going to end right after Tiffany and Pat meet, but the film is about the journey of how they get there. The picture is not groundbreaking in any aspect, but at the same time it has a hearth that captures you and keeps you interested. I always wonder what with all the talent that Hollywood movies are using and have at their disposal we still have to see continuity errors. They really take me out of the story and make me ask questions. The 3 striking continuity mistakes - the golden locket, the jacket after the restaurant, and the duct taping of the shoes.
